BENEFITS OF DEVELOPING F.M.S. FROM A YOUNG AGE

Fundamental movement and sports skills – also called “physical literacy” – help a child learn to move and play sports with confidence and control. There are many benefits to learning movement skills; physical, social, and cognitive. The physical benefits are endless and children will improve their strength, coordination, and flexibility along with developing and learning many key sports skills.

The main social benefits are improved confidence, communication skills, and, sense of achievement. We will be teaching them new movements & techniques that they will have to work at and practice in order to accomplish them! Cognitive benefits are never-ending! Learning to master a new skill takes focus and persistence. You need to figure it out by yourself but also as part of a team!

By introducing your child to lots of different physical activities from a young age, keeping them fun, and practicing fundamental movement skills, you will give them the best chance at succeeding in sports. More importantly, you will set them on the path towards a healthy and active lifestyle later in life.

  • Many kids fear failure, but it's crucial for parents to help them understand that failure is a positive and essential part of the learning process. Here are 4 ways to show kids that it's okay to fail: 1. Learn Through Mistakes 📝 Mistakes don’t have to be a bad thing. It’s a two-step process to move forward. Instead of only focusing on fixing the mistake or adapting, also ask, “What can we learn from this mistake?” 2. Ask Questions Together 🔍 When your child struggles to master a sports skill, ask questions to promote critical thinking. Work together to identify lessons and possibilities, turning challenges into solutions and building their sports IQ. 3. Try New Things 🚩 Trying a new sport can lead to initial failures, which might feel discouraging. Explore different sports together to discover what suits your child best. If one sport doesn’t work out, take it as an opportunity to try another. 4. Practice and Persevere 💪 Remember, young athletes are still learning and growing. When they face difficulties, help them see beyond the tough parts and motivate them to keep trying. Perseverance is key to becoming a stronger athlete. “It’s not always about being the best, but about loving what you do.” ❤️ Encourage your child to embrace their sports journey, failures and all, as they develop into well-rounded athletes.
